Kim Shin (Gong-yoo 공유)
Kim Shin was a legendary warrior of Korea, slicing through his enemies without hesistence and fighting fiercefully for his people. Despite his dignity and love towards his followers, he was betrayed, brutally stabbed to death by his country. However, as he came to face death, he was given a punishment-like gift to live forever without aging yet with a sword pierced through his heart. All the 939 years he's lived as a Goblin, he has been searching for the one person who could pull out the aching sword out of his heart, the Goblin's wife.
Ji Eun-Tak (Kim Go-Eun 김고은)
Although Eun Tak seemed to be the ordinary high schooler, she grew up in a abusive environment of her aunt's family as her mother died when she was young. Having the ability to see ghosts, she was lonely and an outcast of her school. Whilst her life was at its lowest, she meets the Goblin and soon finds out her destiny to be the Goblin's wife.
The Grim Reaper (Lee Dong-Wook 이동욱)
The Grim Reaper is a fascinating character within the drama with the cold yet funny comments and expressions he shares. Although he does not remember, the Grim Reaper was the king during the Goryeo Dynasty who murdered both Kim Shin and Kim Sun. Without knowing that he murdered Sunny in her past life, he falls in love with her.
Sunny/Kim Sun (Yoo In-Na 유인나)
Sunny is the owner of a restaurant which Ji Eun-Tak works at. With her chill characteristics and strong charisma she teaches Eun-Tak to become more resilient. In her past life, she was the sister of Kim Shin, named Kim Sun. However, as Kim Shin was executed, Kim Sun was also shot by an arrow, both the siblings facing death. Yet, Kim Sun is reborn with the name of Sunny and is unable to remember Kim Shin.
Yoo Duk-Hwa (Yook Sung-Jae 육성재)
Duk-Hwa's family has been a server of the Goblin for generations which is why he was given to role to look after Kim Shin. Being born in a rich family, Duk-Hwa mainly plays the role of providing the Goblin with needs and supporting him with his clueless and funny personality.
Storyline Summary
Facing death by his fellow warrior during war, God turns Kim Shin in to an immortal goblin, setting certain tasks to protect those in danger of death. One of these people was Ji Eun-Tak who was saved by the Goblin from the dying mother's stomach after getting run over by a car. Eun-Tak grows up in a disgusting environment along with the terrifying curse of being able to see ghosts. When she reaches 3rd grade of high school, she meets with the Goblin once again and soon realises her fate of becomming the Goblin's wife who will pull the sword out of his chest.
Wanting to work for her own instead of relying on her abusive aunt, Eun-Tak gets employed in a restaurant owned by a charismatic woman named Sunny, who turns out to be Kim Shin's sister, Kim Sun, in her past life. Although Sunny had forgotten her past life, Kim Shin treasures their memories, leading him to constantly roam around Sunny's restaurant.
Meanwhile, the Grim Reaper also starts to show interest in Sunny's attractive personality, forgetting the fact that he had murdered her in his past life as a king, which was a part of the reason for why he was serving as a Grim Reaper. As more times are spent together, they begin to fall in love as well as the Goblin and Ji Eun-Tak, commencing their adorable romance.
However, none of them realised the brutal truth that was destined to come across them. Will the Goblin be able to finally pull his sword out of his chest? Will the characters' romance fulfil? Watch the drama on many platforms like NetFlix and Appletv to find out more.
Honest Review:
This was the K-drama which I will adore for the rest of my life. Although it was been some time since the release of this k-drama, its capturing storyline and beautiful cinematography left me awestruck. Being written by a famous writer, Kim Eun-Sook, this k-drama was already expected of high standards, but the final result was even more grand and astounding than expected. The actors were able to express their character's backstory and event extremely well with their talented and experienced acting skills. This is the go-to k-drama for anyone who enjoys romance and pillow punching as well as creativity in fantasy worlds.
